

The Gyrotonic Expansion System® (GXS) is a complete movement system
based on the principles of yoga, dance, tai chi, and swimming.
Designed around the human body, GXS adjusts to the needs and
size of each individual. The spine is used as the bodys central
support. Circular and spiraling movements elongate the spine and strengthen
the deeper abdominal and pelvic muscles. As the intervertebral spaces
open, water absorption increases into the discs, resulting
in a stronger, healthier spine.
The exercises performed on the GXS work the major muscle groups both
independently and in an integrated manner. GXS emphasizes movement
with multiple joint articulation, resulting in stronger ligaments
and improved neuromuscular coordination. The exercises stimulate the
natural shape of joint surfaces and employ the principles of extension,
elongation and circular movement.
